Artifact 3
Developmental Journal: Identity, Moral Development, and Reflection
Artifact file
Overview
This artifact is a developmental journal entry in which I reflect on my spiritual, moral, and religious identity using Peek’s Model of Muslim Identity Development, Kohlberg’s Theory of Moral Development, and Rest’s Neo-Kohlbergian Approach. The paper explores how my experiences in Ghana and the United States shaped my identity, values, and ethical reasoning over time.
My Role
I wrote this journal as a reflective academic assignment that required me to connect theory to my own lived experience and developmental journey.
What This Demonstrates
This artifact demonstrates my ability to use developmental theory to make meaning of personal experience. In particular, I reflected on what it meant to navigate life in Bloomington as part of a religious minority and how that experience deepened my self-understanding. This paper helped me think more critically about identity, belonging, and ethical responsibility, and it strengthened my belief that self-awareness is an important part of student affairs practice. It also reflects how I approach students with greater sensitivity to the layered identities and experiences they bring into higher education environments.
